Yazoo is a great place for lunch. You get a lot of food for a very good price, typically under $10 which is oftentimes difficult to do around the Tech Center. The atmosphere is just how a BBQ joint should be, very casual and local. You order food at the cashier and a few minutes later you can pick it up at the window. They have multiple hot sauces (I recommend staying away from the hottest one). I had the beef tips with coleslaw and french fries. The beef was cooked very well and the fries are fresh made. Everyone who works there is extremely friendly and can help you navigate their menu. If you're looking for a quick and hearty lunch, take some time to check out Yazoo.

I am not sure how this place has 4 stars on yelp. When we arrived, the place was dead on a weekday. We order ribs, wings and mac and cheese. I was surprised that the food was in a warmer and it showed. The Mac and cheese was dry as well as the ribs. The wings were small and they must have been in the food warmer for awhile since it was mushy. It reminds of food at an event that was left out on the warmer for hours. The sides like the baked beans were good but it won't be a reason for me to come.

Not even close to as good as the one in LoDo. I'm a fan of the "Bobs" and got them at the Arapahoe Rd location. The bacon was so undercooked I had to remove it completely. And they're supposed to have jalapeños on each bite, however they were missing. Lacking what I craved from experiencing the Broadway/LoDo location (5 Stars)

Went in at 630 last night (Sunday) for dinner. They close at 7 which seems a little early but that's ok. The pork and chicken were awesome along with the hush puppies. I adored the homemade sauce selection. The brisket and ribs were a bit dry for my liking but I think that had to do with them closing so soon. If you're a sweet tea fanatic like me, I'd pass on it. Save yourself the calories.

These guys deserve more than 4 stars. BBQ brisket is excellent, and their variety of sauces to add on the side will match flavors for everyone - from sweet and tangy to very spicy. I dig the stupid spicy sauce with habanero extract.

Order of rib tips with 2 sides ( mash potatoes and slaw ) for $7.25! What a deal! The rib tips were nice and moist and burned just right. Most of the pieces were fall off the bones. The sides were ok and really nothing special. Service was fast and friendly. Waited about 3 min to get my food. Definitely one of my new spots for lunch.

I live less than 2 miles from Yazoo, Brothers, and Jabo's. I LOVE BBQ. I smoke at home, have even entered KC competitions in the past. I won money for my brisket one year I felt I needed to give reviews to all three places mentioned above. Within the past month, I have visited all three establishments. Yazoo: More like 3 1/2 stars. I find Yazoo's Inconsistent. PRO's: Easy on the wallet, cheapest of the three. Fast Great smoked wings Multiple homemade sauces to use (traditional, vinegar-mustard) When Yazoo is having a great day, the food is great. But as mentioned Yazoo is not consistent Beer for sale. Fountain pop (or soda for some of you) CON's: Sometimes the meat has no smoke, or too much smoke. Sometimes the sauces can be off (inconsistent) Overall, I visit Yazoo the most of the three because of the cost and I love the smoked wings. I would say the BBQ is a 7-8 out of 10. I do recommend it, you have to try it for yourself. I believe Brothers and Jabo's have more consistent quality then Yazoo's, but those two have their CON's as well.

The ribs here are amazing. So good that I will definitely be back the next time I'm in Denver. The restaurant is set up so you go in and order at the counter and get your food almost instantly. It all goes pretty fast so don't be discouraged by a line. All the sauces I tried were delicious too, but I couldn't try all of them because they are pretty stern (yet still polite) about not wasting any.

Stumbled upon this place by accident and decided to stop in. So glad I did. The prices are right and the food is so good!! Hands down the best fried okra I've ever had! It was so crispy and golden but not at all greasy. The catfish was delicious as well; the perfect amount of seasoning and yet again not greasy at all!! The service was phenomenal and the prices are good too. I will definitely be back as soon as possible!

YUMMY smoked bbq! Have eaten here for years and they still deliver a quality product in ribs, rib tips, cheek-en & jalapeño kabobs, smoked sausage, brisket and chopped pork. Staff...., absolutely AMAZING!

We ate in and had a little trouble breathing (kinda smoky inside). The meats were all ok except for "the Bob." - Supposedly the signature item at this place that we were "lucky was still left" by the time we got in around 1pm. I'm sure it is usually really good, but ours was under-cooked (chicken was chewy and pink on the inside and the bacon-wrapping was still fatty and chewy); we left most of it on the plate. On the flip side, the sauces are good and the chicken wings were good too.

Everything on the menu is delicious and I have tried it all. Plenty of sides to choose from and if you are having trouble on your main course, try the B.O.B. your first time. Chicken wrapped in jalapenos and bacon. Can't get any better than that. It does tend to get busy during lunch times and not a lot of room to stand around in the line, but worth the wait. Great service too.

The server/cook was great/attentive. Barbecue (brisket) was great and so were the sides (Mac&Hush). Being from Texas , it's hard to find good brisket and this Coloradan place may be the answer for my brisket hunger.

My first time here and I really enjoyed it. Phenomenal price for a huge amount of food! (For context my whole meal here cost what one sandwich and a drink costs at Brother's BBQ). I ordered the 2 meat combo w/ 2 sides: sausage link and pork shoulder w/ hush puppies and fried pickles, and a drink. The link had a slight spicy kick and was absolutely delicious, almost craveable! The pork was smoky, lean and moist. I hadn't had a hush puppy in more than 15 years and these were so much better than I remember them being! A touch of sweet, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The fried pickles were good, made fresh but I probably will try another side next time- mac n cheese and coleslaw looked good, and table-mates were raving about the cold green bean "salad". This place, like most good DTC lunch spots, gets busy! Walked in right at 11:30 to find the line at least 6 deep. They move quick, get the food out, and there's a decent amount of seating. It is a pretty tight squeeze in there though, so be warned if you have anxiety about that sort of thing. Sitting here at work, I can still smell the smoke smell on my hair and clothes- not sure if I love it or hate it, but another reason why to-go might be best for me the next time! Oh, and the child in me really appreciated the separated plates! I can't stand when my food touches, so this took care of that for me :) All in all, another great DTC lunch spot that will become part of my regular rotation!

'Yazoo' is a name that brings to mind Yazoo City, Mississippi, the decor is legit, very Memphis, the menu is great, very mid-South, but the food, particularly the sauces are pretending at best, much more Colorado/Kansas City than Memphis, TN or McComb, MS. If you like this place for what it serves great, but if you are Southern or you know Southern BBQ and that's what you're after, beware - you will likely be disappointed.

Definitely a fan. I came here on my first visit with the Yelp DTC Lunch Club. The place reeks of smoked meat upon entrance, which is a great smell to me, but can be overpowering. I ordered the brisket sandwich, which I really enjoyed and had two sides: mac and cheese and baked beans, I think. I liked the baked beans, the mac and cheese was fair. I did have a bit of Jessica T's hush puppies and they were ok. On the second visit, I decided to try the catfish plate. I went again on a Friday, but after the lunch rush, about 2 pm. They were out of several items, but that's just how it goes. I ordered the baked beans again, as well as hush puppies. I have to say after having a full order, I wouldn't order the hush puppies again. They are ok, but not as good as I remember. Both times the hush puppies were a bit burnt as well. The catfish plate was pretty good, but I will probably stick to the brisket and the ribs. I rarely find bbq that I enjoy, so this was a first. I also liked that they don't put the sauce on the bbq, but have different sauces for you to add on the side.

  • Caleb A.

Overall a pretty interesting option for a quick lunch, but the truth is, this place really isn't true BBQ. Bacon wrapped item called the "Bob," chicken wings...these are not traditional BBQ items. Their sauce is a bit confused as well. Either it's a regional type of sauce or not a sauce at all. Also, absolutely ZERO smoke flavor in the meats. Do they just grill it? Not trying to be entirely negative as the food had some flavor and the service was good, but what passes for BBQ in Denver really baffles me.

  • Keith A.

Loved it. I can see why they win the awards. The decor is average but the food is spectacular. The Bob and the mac and cheese were very good.

  • Michael W.

So I eat here probably three times a week...i'm always so excited to get in here and shove their BBQ in my face that I forget to check in! But seriously everything is so good!! if you pass it up, shame on you!

  • Joe Y.

Greenwood Village location: No patio seating and the room is dark but the rib tips are consistently good at both locations. For entrees under $10 plus 2 sides which is cheaper than Jabos across the street. Eat up first then binge drink some pitchers at JDs next door. Original Denver location: Dedicated parking lot with lots of patio and roof deck seating. I was told the "Bob" is only available on the weekdays or early lunch. The savory beef brisket was legit. Somehow the GV location brisket wasn't as good.

Surprisingly delicious BBQ in a DTC stripmall! Recommended to my BBQ-loving husband by his boss, we stopped in on a Friday evening. There were a couple other tables but not overly crowded - which is good because this restaurant isn't very large. Food was pretty tasty - definitely get the brisket - and the staff was super nice. I learned from y'alls yelp reviews that I need to go earlier next time to get the kebobs. A chicken kabob, wrapped in bacon and soaked in jalopeno sounds like I've died and gone to heaven. Duly noted! Eat at Yazoo's for lunch to get the kebob!

My first stop to Yazoo would of earned it a four star. Food was good. Guy working there was friendly. The second try was a pick-up order I did for my work team. We went online, used the PDF, and ordered. When we got there we found EVERY ITEM cost between 50-75 cents more. They explained it away "oh we haven't updated the website". Down right wrong by my mark. No effort to make things right. . no effort to say sorry. Then I get my food and they forget my 2nd side. I also got some overall (food good, ribs dry) feedback. So I emailed the guy . . and mentioned both the price error AND the missing side. No effort to fix anything. . . This service issue means the food is okay. . but they lost a potential long-term customer. I really don't appreciate it when companies don't make a effort to fix things that go wrong.

There are three types of people in this world: Those that love BBQ Sauce, and those that don't. It's really that simple. If you're in it for the meat, go here. If you're in it for the sauce, you're frankly in the wrong city. Mac & Cheese is outstanding (and it's a good thing as it may be the last thing you eat before your arteries clog), hush puppies are above average, but oh, the meat. I've been to most BBQ Joints in Denver now and i truly believe this to be in the top two for chicken. Good portions, reasonable prices, delicious food...what more could a foody want? Hey, It's about the meat, right?

  • Jon R.

The dry rub ribs are very tasty and enjoyable. My favorite is the bbq sauces they are thick and not watered down like the other places. The sides were good but nothing out of the ordinary. I will consider them #3 on my list.

I think it's absolutely foolish to have your window sign and phone recording say you open at 11:30am and your yelp page at 12:00pm. To top it off you didn't open at either time. We got there at 11:30, nothing. Waited till 12:00 still nothing. After waiting an extra 15min we said screw it and went next door for lunch. Not five minutes later two clerks in aprons run inside and flick on the open sign. You're supposed to be one of the best BBQ restaurants in the city and you can't even open on time? There must of been a dozen or more people come up and pull on the door wanting "The best BBQ" only to walk away disappointed. Yeah... your food is good but when no one can eat it that's a problem. I don't get to this side of town often, but once a month I make sure to stop in here and now that's going to change. I'll eat sub-par BBQ with better business practices than patronize a business that can't serve the LINE of customers waiting at their front door. You've broken my heart Yazoo's. I wonder if Brothers BBQ across the street has a heart break special... At least I can go inside and check.

We stopped here since it's right next to the 25, and therefor on our way back to Wyoming. The rib tips at this place are on point. They've got a nice bark on the outside, and the meat is so nice and tender. The prices are great, especially for bbq. I got the rib tips, brisket and one side(mac) and my wife got the rib tip special. (comes with too many ribs for her to finish, two sides, and a soda) We got all that for $16. They have five different sauces, of which the carolina-type one was our favorite. The sweet sauce was REALLY sweet, and the "stupid hot" bbq sauce lives up to its name. I'd definitely go back again if I was in the area. Insanely good barbecue for the price.

I ate the brisket sandwhich and it was ... Alright. Skimped on the fries and I'm talking like 15 fries... There's got to be better BBQ places, I haven't found it in Denver, But this isn't it.

  • Misty A.

I love Yazoo's. It is fantastic you can add your own sauce of whatever spice level you like. The jalapeno hush puppies are really good, and not too hot either. They give you alot of food for a good price. The best ever food I have tried there so far is the "Bob'. Big pieces of chicken wraped in bacon and seasoned on a skewer and the baked beans.

    (4)
  • Aaron Z.

The BOB is fantastic- sweet succulent hunks of chicken breast wrapped in bacon and jalapenos and then smoked. The sides are good, and the hush puppies are tasty without being dried out. The buns for the sandwiches are just boring hamburger buns, it'd be nice for some thing a little more...maybe some texas toast? Either way, food is good, and the sauces are quite tasty.

When I walked into Yazoo, the aroma of smoked goodness hit me and automatically I knew that I was going to be in for a treat. I moved here from North Carolina and haven't found a solid bbq place in town so I thought this was going to be another notch on the disappointment bbq belt. Thankfully it wasn't and I can't wait to come back here again! Yazoo is very unassuming, right off of Arapahoe in a strip mall that houses mostly Asian restaurants and establishments (with a Subway and bar thrown into the mix). When we walked in on Sunday evening there was only one other table sitting and one lady working. One of my coworkers who told me about this place told me they run out of items pretty quickly and to get there early so I went with the idea that they wouldn't have everything on the menu and that held true-they were out of ribs and half chickens but had everything else besides that. That really didn't affect me because my standard when I go to bbq places is a pork sandwich. They give you a nice portion with the 14 lb sandwich and had extra pork to have on the side. It wasn't pulled but instead thick chunks of pork, succulent and smoked, it was perfect! They are Memphis style so the sandwich wasn't served with sauce on it but they have a bbq bar with sauces ranging from tangy to sweet and everything in between. I got the sweet bbq and hot bbq sauce and mixed those together to create some sweet/hot action on the sandwich and it was heavenly--just the perfect amount of spice to get my mouth watering then soon cooled down by their creamy cole slaw. I got fried pickles as my other side and was stoked to see they do it the right way, chips and not spears! My belly was happy leaving and I like the local feel of this place. Next time I'm going to stop by for lunch so I can try some different items before they run out.

  • Kade R.

Really great bbq that is fast but made right! I had the rib tips, fries, and baked beans. The hush puppies have a little jalapeño spice to them which I thought was fantastic! The only downside is that if you don't get there early enough for lunch or dinner your options will be limited.

Service-5. Food-5. Atmosphere-5. Loving the new rooftop. Great place to watch the game! What part of y'all don't you understand? I love the special dry rub. Yazoo lets me sauce it up... If I care to

Hands down the best BBQ in Denver. I've been eating here since it was just the old front patio with a 10 SQ foot box to stand in and get your food. How the times have changed. I told them I wanted them to cater my baby shower and let's just say you couldn't ask for better customer service! Everyone raved about the brisket and chicken. Thank you guys you're wonderful!

  • Josh P.

Mmmm...Bacon. Perhaps my taste buds were influenced by the fact that my meal was free, but I quite enjoyed "the Bob" (as in shish ka). It was a skewer of chicken, wrapped in bacon and jalapeno, seasoned, and cooked to a turn. The joint (it was definitely a joint) had the right feel for a BBQ place. They got food, you tell em what you want, they put it on a plate (paper plate that is) you sit, you eat, and you move along. I also appreciated that my food wasn't drowning in barbecue sauce. In fact, you add your own, generally speaking, according to your personal preference. As you can tell from the tone of my Yelps, I like mine dry.

Came here for dinner one night after work. My coworkers regularly rave about their BBQ and so I figured it was about time I checked it out! I ordered the brisket with a side of potato salad and coleslaw. I was nicely directed to the selection of homemade sauces to the side. I chose the golden sauce and one of the mild barbecue sauces and both were heavenly. I got my meal to go and my brisket had nicely been packed in a small container so that it did not touch any of the other items. The meal also came with a white bun that I was able to make my own brisket sandwich with. The meat was very juicy and the coleslaw was some of the best that I have had in Denver. Prices are very reasonable for large portions that you receive. I absolutely wouldn't hesitate to come here again!

  • Alex L.

Nothing here really sticks out. The service was great and the lady at the counter was super friendly. I ordered a brisket sandwich with a side of green beans and fried pickles. The green beans were served cold which I thought was odd. The fried pickles seemed a bit too fried. Portions were not worth the money either. I would give this place 2.5 stars. The sauces seemed runny and I did not taste any smokiness in the brisket before I added any of the BBQ sauces. I will continually search for great BBQ in Denver. So far, I am 0-1 but crossing fingers my journey will yield better results.

I ordered a pulled pork sandwich and some fries. Sandwich meat was overcooked and therefore chewy. The BBQ sauces were too sweet, I tried three of them. Overcooking the pulled pork made me wonder about the freshness, as I ate at 11:00am, I was/am concerned it was a day old. Finally, I paid $11 for the meal and a soda (they don't have Root beer), which I thought was a little high.

Second lunch visit, about three months apart. Something has gone horribly wrong in the kitchen. Rib tips were severely under cooked; catfish filet was extremely salty and deep fried hard/crunchy. Brans were Van Camps from a can. Mgr shrugged and turned and walked away when I commented to him on quality of food for $16.

So great we came twice in a week AND bought some extra BOBs to take home. Love the smoked chicken BOBs wrapped with bacon and jalapeños. Try with the thick sweet sauce, fried pickles with ranch and cobbler.

    Good brisket.

Bacon wrapped chicken kabobs! Catfish! Blackberry Cobbler! I love Yazoo for the fact I can get Catfish that actually tastes like the south here in Colorado. The downsides are a very cramped parking lot and it can be really expensive if you get more than 1 side.

  • Randy S.

Not exactly and authentic looking BBQ joint, being located in a strip mall. The ribs come out plain and unseasoned. You have a plethora of sauces to squirt on top of you ribs. So I tried 4 different ones, just ok. I guess next time I'll try one of those chicken breast skewers; evidently the most popular item 'cuz they were sold out...

There are some things that I really liked about this place. First, the sauces were very good and there was a wide variety of sauces to try. My personal favorites were the gold sauce and the hot. Although, to be fair, I thought they were all good. I also really enjoyed the "feel" of this place. It has the feel of a BBQ joint. Made me nostalgic for my neck of the woods (fla, ga, bama). What I mean is that it is not trying to be anything other than it is-- a cheap and quick barbeque spot. The crowd in here reflected that. I saw a table of marines and several tables of blue collar types on their lunch break. That is as a BBQ spot should be. Not a hipster or yuppie in sight! I wish that they gave you the option to choose between sliced or chopped brisket. It comes chopped and I prefer mine sliced. Oh well. The meat is served unsauced which is as it should be. My brisket was a tad on the dry side, but had a good flavor to it. Their fried pickles are slices which is as it should be (no spears!). I was generally pleased with this place. A good option if you are looking for "dude food."

BEST bbq in town-hands down!!! We have tried several places and this beats them all. First the food is great-briscuit, ribs, Mac and cheese, and fried pickles. They have tons of sauces which are great and both staff members were awesome! The only bbq I'll eat. Oh did i mention you get TONS of food for a great price?! Two meats and a side for 8 bucks.

  • Will C.

I had lunch here the other day and the ribs were pretty good. I had the 4 rib combo that comes with 2 sides. I liked their selection of sauces also. I'll probably be back to try some other things on the menu. Unlike another local BBQ spot I don't mind actually sitting down and eating in at this place.

Best BBQ in Denver. The coolest low key rooftop bar in downtown. Hidden gem for sure.

  • Cassandra F.

This is kind of a little dive spot in a strip mall, but has surprisingly good food. A friend recommended it for lunch the other day and I was pleasantly surprised. Their specialty is the BOB, which is chicken and jalapeno wrapped in bacon, kabob style.....really good. The person I was with got a pulled pork sandwich that looked really good too. They have a good selection of sides as well: potato salad, mac 'n cheese, hush puppies, coleslaw, etc. I think it's a great little lunch place, and I liked their BBQ sauce too. I tried the mild and it was a little sweet with a little bit of spice still. One note, they said that they run out of things as the day goes on and usually sell out of the BOBs.

  • Jesse G.

Really good barbecue. Try the bob, if its they have any left. Rib tips is a lot of food for fairly cheap. Great sauces! Hush puppies are good and the mac 'n cheese isn't bad either. I've had better potato salad though.

I saw there are reviews for the downtown location, so I thought I would give this one it's due. I can't think of a better way to eat than the pulled pork sandwich with the gold bbq sauce. Simple menu, and everything is fantastic. I always go back to the same things, but I've eaten there countless times and just thinking about it really does make my mouth water. Wow. That is good.

Went to Yazoo's last night with the family. Had read about the restaurant having great BBQ, and thought I'd try it out. It indeed was very good food. The guy behind the counter (I think owner) recommended the combo for first-timers like us. So both my husband and I got a 2 meat plus side plate. Both were excellent. Husband got brisket and hot links (pretty spicy - so I didn't try those) and the fried pickles. I got the chicken wings and ribs plus mac and cheese. The ribs were cooked perfectly (fall of the bone) and the wings were really good (smokey and well seasoned). You could see the smoke rings on the ribs. I really enjoyed the BBQ sauces you could choose from. I had the honey and mild and they were both very good. We got a side of blackberry cobbler to go as well - very good too. Will definitely be back soon!

I was not overly impressed, but it was okay. We came here for DTC lunch club last week. The place was packed by 11:40am, but had died down by 12:30pm (which seems a bit odd). They have a rather extensive menu. I went with a pulled pork sandwich (1/2 pound) with a side of beans, and a side of mac and cheese. The mac and cheese was just okay. It was a rather small serving, and I do not know why it needed an up-charge. The beans were fair. They were way more like "pork and beans" than they were like the advertised "Smoked BBQ Beans". They did not have a ton of flavor and there were no meaty or veggie bits in the beans. The pulled pork was good, but not great. It was a touch on the dry side, and had a lot of burnt bits. A pulled pork sandwich is not something I typically associate with burnt ends. The sauces they had available were quite good (Mild Sweet, Hot Tangy, Super Hot, and Sign a Disclaimer Hot! ). The sweet was decent, the tangy was nicely interesting, the super hot could easily become my "go to" sauce, and the sign a disclaimer hot was brutally spicy enough to puff up the roof of your mouth.

Sad and disappointed. this great BBQ spot went bad. The last two times I have been there the food has been dry and or and not subpar. Serving sizes have gone down. The wings are small and jerky like. The coleslaw was warm and the portions small. This place used to have amazing food. There has been a change in staff. With many other BBQ spots in the area I will not be back.

My 2nd visit here and not as great as I remember the 1st time. I had some multi-meat combo with chicken and brisket the 1st time and both meats were great. 5 stars. This time my cousin (who gets 1 star for food choices) convinced me to get the rib tips. They were a bit overcooked and dry. I give this meal 3 stars. So, average it out to 4. The range of bbq sauces is wonderful, from sweet to OMG that's F---ing hot. I live for spicy/hot food so, I tried the hot one, "stupid hot," and was crying like a little school girl that has just been told that Justin Beiber doesn't like her. I even tried the "medium hot" sauce with a very small amount of "stupid hot" in there and was still in pain. The ambiance is lacking but, that's not why you come here. My lunch was $7 which is less than usual for going out and much appreciated on the pocketbook. On the plus side, I didn't have to find a restroom on my 1 mile way back to work. Whenever I eat at Dickey's Barbecue Pit, another BBQ place near work, the food goes through me in an hour or two.

Being from Texas, I am still looking for a good place in Denver for BBQ brisket. Yazoo has a pretty good product. I was sure to ask for the moist/fatty portion and it had a good smoke ring and flavor. It is served somewhat chopped but not shredded instead of sliced and there was a fair amount of oil/grease on the paper plate. Compared to Texas BBQ, it seemed a little too greasy and not quiet as moist. I did not get a sandwich but if it was served on butcher paper with sandwich bread you could soak up some of the extra flavor. It is not served with sauce which is the only way to serve it. I tried one of the sauces and it was pretty good if you like sauce. The fries were not very good. I think they are fried in the same oil as the fish and are just your standard freezer fries. I'll be going back to try other things. Definitely the best brisket so far in Denver. Not as good as Rudy's in CO Springs if you are willing to drive that far, but Rudy's has gone down a little in quality and is not as good as Rudy's in TX either.

So maybe it wasn't the best day to go. Today was the first soaking rain in months and the roof here only protects you from about 90% of the wet. Their fryolator had shorted out out from the rain and the were small puddles and a few wet shoulders as well. We had a mix, BBQ Chicken, Ribs, Pull Port Sandwich, Burnt Ends and I ordered the "Bob". The sauces were so so, too vinegary for me. The meat was not well smoked, very little to no ring, the ribs passable but not fall off the bone good. The rub was light seemed to be almost pure cayenne and chili powder, and there was practically no bark. One of the group is an active BBQ judges and KCBS member and they weren't favorably impressed either although they did say that the rain may have contributed to the less than stellar BBQ. My sense is that the ribs were cooked at too high a heat for too little time. A bit more time and smoke may be what they need. The Bobs, were nothing to "crow" about, the bacon wrapping was 25% limp and under cooked as well. Head across Arapaho to Jabo's, better Q there.

Oh I LOVED this place. Best I've tried in Denver so far. They have high chairs and it is loud enough that nobody minded the little bug being there but not so loud that it upset him. I really liked the hot sauce, got the hot link Sammie and it was SPICY! But not too spicy to be enjoyable. Fried pickles were yummy although how could they not be, Mac n cheese is good but a little on the mushy side. Had some of hubby's brisket Sammie-- he liked it but I loved it ah mah gah! Anyway I am a fan and hope to be back soon.

Not much to say about a BBQ except that it's either good or bad. This place... GOOD. I stopped in on an early Friday evening and it was a bit slow. Lucky for me, my 1/2 pound brisket sandwich came out quick and it was delicious. I had the same type down the street a bit and the Yazoo BBQ sandwich was much more tender and moist. It's in a strip mall, but it has the same big flavor as the stand alone restaurant downtown is known for. Hit it up.

I travel a lot for work and every city I find myself in I like to try a local, non-chain BBQ restaurant. I chose Yazoo this time around. The man behind the counter was friendly, quick, accurate and helpful with what I should try for my first time at their restaurant. Ended up with a small order of ribs (4) and a pulled pork sammy, my favorite, with sides of hush puppies and mac'n'cheese. They have a counter full of BBQ Sauce that you can add straight to your meal or put in small takeout cups. I'm a fan of spicy things (I use Sriracha as ketchup for my fries) so I naturally went to the 'Super Hot' sauce to give it a try... Also tried the sweet and golden. Let me tell you!! Got back to my room and took a little bit of the pork from the sandwich and dipped it in the Super Hot BBQ.... This is HOTTTT!!! Beware. Made me take a second and go get some ice... Very good flavor for such a hot sauce though, found cutting it with about 70% of the sweet was perfect heat. The Pulled pork was great but had a few small pieces I had to set aside because the bark was too hard. The ribs were excellent and lightly seasoned, fell off the bone with little effort and were not to dry. Mac and cheese was good, but nothing special. And the hush puppies may have spent 10 seconds too long in the fryer. All in All... Good BBQ with good flavor, would definitely go again if I'm in town.

Nice BBQ joint for the price. Rib tips and two sides for $8. The tips are sauce-less which means you have an assortment of sauce to choose from for your liking. The fried pickles are a nice surprise as well. Cheers!

Tried this place for the first time this year. Oh man. So good and I love the friendly employees. I get the pork shoulder sandwich, also have ordered the chicken. If you love barbecue you have to check this place out!

Yazoo serves up a decent plate of food, but it's nothing to write home about. Although the service is exceptional, the food is pretty ho-hum and the sauces are pretty standard supermarket quality.

This is based on a single dining, so take it for what it is worth. I was heading to JD's Bait shop for a beer after my class and popped in here to grab a pulled pork sandwich. Unfortunately my waistline and cholesterol level dictate I eat heart smart foods like the pulled pork sandwiches often. Pretty small menu, which I like. I hate having to Rubic's Cube my way through ordering a meal. Keep it simple! Good Job Yazoo! The vegetarian lady behind the counter (I know!) couldn't have been more friendly or helpful. She walked me through the menu and made sure I didn't order too much. Poor girl had ACL surgery and missed a trip to Peru...that sucks. The shoulder was ok, not real smokey and a little under seasoned to my liking. It was very tender and I appreciate that they had 4 sandwich sizes to pick from and several sauces (maybe too many sauces). The suggested Mac & Cheese and Baked Beans, were really good. I'd go back for them alone. Overall, I'm being a BBQ snob. The food was decent and the service was really good. Its worth a shot when you are in the area... When the heck did Colorado become a BBQ mecca?

Apparently this is my month of lunch at places I've never heard of, but are within a mile of every place I've ever worked in the past 10 years. Yazoo's is kind of tucked back in there with the Home Depot and is a small, counter service place that gives you the food on paper plates. Their menu is written in chalk behind the counter and if you have eyes like mine you might have trouble reading it. That's the only reason I'm knocking a star off. I got the brisket, 2 sides and a drink for about $10, so not terribly bad. The brisket was cut into very small pieces and was very yummy. There's no sauce on it, but there's a wide array of sauce choices over by the utensils and the 2 different ones I tried were good.

Frickles! Big servings! Put on your own sauce! I live near the downtown one and don't get there enough, but this one is near the office and I anticipate being there often! I went with the rib platter! Holy rusted metal batman, 4 ribs is not a small matter! The frickles were awesome! The mac n cheese - meh... try something else (sorry fans) I did the super hot sauce, and the sweet enough to take home to mama and the golden, hot was ok, sweet enough.. was the best one. Although there were 3 more to try... Friendly staff, yes, order at a counter and pick up when they call you. But dang, is it night to have real seating, and alot of it in this place! So different than down town!

So that way I hear it, there are at least two major schools of thought on BBQ. They go by many names, but let's reflect on The School of Sauce, and the The School of Smoke. The School of Sauce teaches us that the sauce is magic and elevates the meat to a whole new level of BBQ. There are more sauces than cooks, but my contribution to the School is that cooking the meat with the sauce is a key - getting that crisp glaze married to the meat is the real sanctification of the dogma. The School of Smoke teaches us that BBQ is all about the meat - and the sauce is just window dressing. The meat should stand on it's own - flavorful, smokey, moist, transcendent. I'm a dual major. At a given spot, I can go either way. Now to the point. Unfortunately, the meat isn't good enough here to be of the School of Smoke - it's good, just not so good you don't reach for a few of their sauces to pep it up. And the sauces are ala carte; they aren't used in cooking the meats as far as I can tell. To be more specific, the sausage is good, but needs the spicy sauce to be called spicy. The Bob seems like an outstanding idea, but I found it a bit dry. Their pork shoulder and brisket are good - but again you need the sauces to augment their flavor. Bottom line - Yazoo is a step above 'meh', but just A-OK in my book.

I will preface this review by letting you know I grew up in KC. I KNOW BBQ. Period. This place is great! Good variety of sauce, meat is made well. And they have really good catfish. Side were good. Portions are very generous. This is my go to BBQ place in Denver out of the 4 I've tried so far. It's going to be hard to experiment with other places because I know I like this place so much.

This is the BEST BBQ in the area. There are many close to it too, but they don't compare. The place is usually pretty empty when we go in, which is unfortunate and I hope it changes soon so they stick around. Their prices are very reasonable. We have eaten here many times and have never been let down. The service is great as well. As others have mentioned, the woman who works here (usually anyway) is very friendly, helpful and patient. Everything is always fresh. We always get the pulled pork and their sauce choices are delicious with it. We've also had their hush puppies, green beans, bakes beans, mac and cheese... and it has all been delicious. They beat the area competitors EASILY in every way - fresher, friendlier, better taste and quality, and service, no doubt. Definitely stop in. Frequently. This place has to stick around!!! :)

My top local choice for slow cooked beef and pork products. I get the 1/2 pound of brisket with a side of cole slaw with ample amounts of their sweet BBQ sauce. Love how they chop the brisket instead of the more traditional slicing. The only thing keeping me from bestowing a fifth star is that the quality deteriorates through the day. Get there as early as you can because they do all the cooking in the morning.

I was very impressed with everything I received here, everything from the ribs, to the sauces, and their signature Bob - this place is worth every penny, and I wish I lived nearbye so I could make this a regular stop. I started off here with a meal of ribs with a side of coleslaw. The ribs were pretty good, good flavor, good texture, and a decent bone to meat ratio (though a little more meat would have been appreciated). Their sauces were all delicious, and went perfectly with the ribs. Very good first meal. The next time I came in, I wanted to try their signature Bob (basically a very loaded chicken kabob which is wrapped with bacon and spiced with jalapeno and plenty of seasonings), but I guess these go fast, and they were all out. I was even told to call in early and reserve one for myself the next time I knew I'd be coming in. It took me two days to get one, but when I did I realized why these things go so fast... they are GOOD! I ate the one I ordered, and then took another one for the road. If you have a chance to eat here, DO IT, you wont be sorry.

Before I give my review please keep in mind this is coming from someone who has lived in Texas, who pride themselves in BBQ, and California, a state full of food-bougies. This place is just whatevs. I've never had rib tips before Yazoo. They were good but I wasn't impressed. Side dishes were mediocre. Had a variety of sauces but none of them really stood out in a good way. Not bad. Good effort.

Favorite local BBQ joint. 9/10 the ribs fall off the bone and the sides are good every time. A treat after a semester ends or whenever you just feel like pigging out. Always recommend Yazoo to friends.

I enjoy Yazoo BBQ but have found the quality to be inconsistant. They are know for their BOB's, which I have had and found to be AMAZING then to oder them again and had them be really dry and found my self longing for the brisket. Same with the side I have had wonderful hush puppies, perfect friend picked only to be disappointed a second time by them being over cooked. Their sauces are good, a wide variety and you can mix and match to your likings. I have found myself ordering the briket every time as it seems to be reliably moist and delicious. The decor at this location is nice, I appreciate the rotating art and they do seem to be always packed but under staffed, which may be the issue and a quick fix to the inconsistency problem. Regardless it is cheap and pretty good. I'll be back.

The 3 stars is a review based on the place as a whole. I will say they have some 1, 3 and 4 star items. Do not get the brisket or pulled pork. Both were incredibly dry and disappointing. The Wings and sausage were acceptable but not overly impressive. The ribs and rib tips were the best of the standard BBQ fare. The Bob is a nice interesting piece of meat and was very tasty. For sides, they were all pretty lackluster, but not off-putting in any way. Sauces, from sweet to really hot they were all alright. Nothing to stand out or diminish the experience here.

The food was just OK. Not nearly as good as the one down in Denver except for sides and atmosphere. Sides were much better here than at the other location. The restaurant was much nicer and more comfortable than the Denver locale as well. The meat was lacking that little something that they have going for them downtown though. Too bad I can't mush the two locations together to make one super-delicious Yazoo!

Yazoo BBQ - A Haiku A wise man once said Bacon up that Sausage Boy! Commence meat party! Not many people know about Yazoo. And thats a shame. For my money its some of the best BBQ around. Not much more than a hole in the wall situated next to JDs Bait Shop, Yazoo is easy to miss. Their signature item, "The Bob", is a simple chicken kabob wrapped in bacon-y deliciousness. The staff is happy and helpful and the food arrives quick. Personally nothing is better than the Pulled Pork with sides of Fried Pickles and Hushpuppies. My mouth is watering just typing about it. There are plenty of different BBQ sauces to coat everything in, but the sweet and spicy rules them all from on high. The best part, you add the BBQ Sauce at your leisure. As much or as little as you wish. I definitely recommend this place for a quick afternoon lunch. Great catering too!

I really wanted to like this place based on the reviews and the many claims that Yazoo has some of the best BBQ in town. I didn't grow up w/ BBQ in my blood, (instead I had Fish Frys and Bratwurst in my blood) but I've come to appreciate good BBQ. This, unfortunately is just solid BBQ and primarily due to the sauces. The meat isn't slathered w/ sauces, and the brisket was extremely moist and tender upon first glance. The problem I had was there wasn't much of a smokey flavor to the meat, and there was absolutely no seasoning to the meat. You really have to have their BBQ sauces on it to provide any taste at all, otherwise you're just chewing moist, flavorless meat. The sauces I had were good. I had the hot sauce and the hot, but rated a 6 or 7 sauce. The hot sauce is definitely hot--make you sweat hot, and you can just smell the pepper in this stuff. Good stuff. The other sauce was tasty as well and had decent kick without the sweat. Service is what you'd expect from a take your order and give you your food down the counter kinda place while the prices are very reasonable. Overall, I still prefer Jabo's across the street. You can actually taste the smoke over there, chances are Jabo or his wife will come out and visit with you, and their sauces are just as good.

I spent several years in KC in my younger days. In fact, the first place the wife & I lived after getting hitched was mere blocks from the revered Rosedale BBQ - so my perceptions of BBQ joints have become highly refined. Yazoo's, you take me back, your food is soooooo stinkin' good, but you still manage to tick me off. The good - strap yourself in for a BBQ treat! Lotsa love going on back in the kitchen, kids! They serve the meats dry, and let you choose your sauces from pick-up-bottles at the counter, which range from "polite" to "damnation." (my descriptive terms) Choose wisely, grasshopper! Do not pass up an order of the fried dill pickles - trust me on this one. The bad - parking is impossible with the maybe exception of Smart cars. You wind your way through the Home Depot lot to a little strip mall at the end, then squeeze into the tightest parking spots ever conceived by man. This is complicated by a stupid-popular dive bar located at the end of the plaza. There are times when you just give up & move on. Final rating (fanfare) 5 for the food, 1 for the parking. 4+ total based on the fact the food is worth the effort.

Great BBQ and other divine southern inspirations. I am not a well schooled in the complex pageantry that is preparing and eating it, however, I like what I like. And, I like it Yazoo. The are the dry-rub, smoke type and the patron is invited to have it their way with Yazoo's signature sauces, I am certain most would find one to their taste. They have the sweet KC type, to the vinegary Memphis type and Yazoo's Golden, which is a mustardy masterpiece. Our party ordered the baby back, catfish, fries and fried pickles. They use a corn meal coating. Great Crunch! The fried pickles were firm and crunchy, just the way I like them. They are in a strip mall, a little hard to find, they are next to the Home Depot on Arapahoe. The decor is post industrial and they have several TVs. When in burland and have a yen for bbq, go to Yazoo.

The best BBQ that I've had, aside from a roadside stand in East Texas, is from a little place in Chicago called Sam's Chicken and Ribs. Yazoo portends to be "deep-south style", but I think a true Southerner might beg to differ. I had the rib tip special, which came with two sides. It was affordable, the meat was fresh and tender and the potato salad was good. I wasn't too taken by the mild sauce, and I was wondering if their baked beans might have come from a can. If they want to be truly southern, they'll slap a piece of white bread on top of the rib-tip meal. I'll go back, but next time I'll try a sandwich (today, I was on a budget). I'll also try a different sauce, since the last reviewer raved about the gold sauce. At any rate, it's better than Dickey's, a chain BBQ joint up the street. Yazoo is also an affordable lunch spot, no matter what you choose from the menu. I gave it three stars, because I'm a tough customer when it comes to BBQ.

I am glad that Yazoo BBQ has one that was not in Downtown Denver. I went to this one after work. I got there rib tips and tried a bunch of there sauces, especially the one called 'Stupid Hot'. The meat was tender and all the sauces I got I fell in love with.

Some of the best bbq I've had in the downtown area. Very fresh and never dry meat with amazing bbq sause!

  • LaShawn R.

I've never had a bad meal here. The ribs are always tender and tasty. It can be hit or miss at times as to whether they will have the ever-popular Bob when you go in, but if you can get one you won't be sorry. The Bob is a bacon and jalepeno wrapped chicken kabob that goes very well with their golden sauce (note: the golden barbeque sauce isn't served at the joint on Broadway). The only knock against Yazoo's is that their sides aren't as strong as the meats. They do have an awesome cold green bean salad, but the rest of the sides are just...meh. Go for the ribs, the Bob, or the hot links for sure. If worse comes to worse, make your own sides at home...

I really had high hopes for this place, unfortunately it just didn't go over well with me. The ribs (which is the reason i came here) are not good--at all. Served lukewarm, pre wrapped in aluminum foil, tasted like they were roasted instead of BBQ'ed...really?? The other item were the wings--same deal. Overhyped, overrated....Brother's BBQ is better, and i am not a big fan of them either, but if i had the choice i would drive pretty much across the street to go get my bbq fix. I could go on here, but i won't, i don't have time.....Yazoo is a place i will not be going back to.

First sign that something's not quite right...their house specialty is a Bob...a chicken dish. Now I saw a bunch of people ordering it. It looked good. Chicken with jalapenos and bacon on skewers. But it's chicken. Barbecue places all over the country feature pork, brisket, ribs...but chicken? Anyways, I got the 1/2 pound pork sandwich with beans. The pork was dry and not that flavorful. Luckily, they had an assortment of good sauces, so it was an enjoyable sandwich. But as far as barbecue goes, I wasn't impressed. Maybe I'll have to try the Bob, sometime when I'm in the mood for chicken, just not barbecue.

So it was good, not excellent, but good. I had the "bob" the last one left so a little cold but good any way. I loved the array of bbq and hot sauces.

Pretty good! I liked "The Bob." I also got a pork shoulder sandwich. Put their sweet bbq sauce on both. Only negative is Chelyn gypped me! She asked if I wanted just The Bob, but charged me the price for it and two sides! Didn't realize it until miles away (got it to go) and said meh.

Tasty and affordable BBQ. The pork shoulder sandwich with hush puppies and spicy cold green bean salad is my lunch of choice here.

I know one thing about Yazoo's: THE BOB with double hush puppies! It's so good and never gets even after a few years of going there. The bob is bacon/jalepeno wrapped chicken pieces slow smoked on a skewer. It's delicious, and I would consider it their signature dish. I love their sauces - espescially the gold BBQ. I think their hush puppies are really good. The meals are served on paper plates and it's mostly a serve-yourself atmosphere. Just perfect for a little BBQ joint. Highly recommended.

I tied their pork sandwich. It's was ok, a bit dry but did have a good smoke flavor and smoke ring. I picked up several different bbq sauces and wasn't overly impressed. It seemed like a texas/st louis hybrid style, slow smoking on pecan (as opposed to open pit) with a thicker, mostly sweeter type of bbq sauce. Incredibly friendly staff, enough to earn a star on it's own.
